The Community Service Award
The Department of Sociology at Georgia State offers this $150 award to a junior or senior sociology major in recognition of a significant contribution to the community through service.
Use this form to nominate yourself for this award if you meet the eligibility requirements below.*
To be eligible, applicants/nominees must:
- Have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 or higher.
- Be active in some form of community service.
- Be a junior or senior sociology major at Georgia State.
To apply, you must submit:
- A complete application.
- A Letter of Recommendation from a college instructor, college faculty member, college administrator, college staff member, or community service organization representative.
- A copy of your Academic Evaluation.
- A Letter of Interest describing your involvement in some form of community service.

The Margaret Andersen Scholarship
The Department of Sociology at Georgia State offers this $1000 scholarship to an outstanding senior sociology major who intends to enroll in a graduate program in sociology. This scholarship was created by Dr. Margaret Andersen (who earned an undergraduate degree in sociology from Georgia State University in 1970) and her husband, Richard Rosenfeld.
Use this form to nominate yourself for this award if you meet the eligibility requirements below.*
To be eligible, you must:
- Have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher.
- Have applied or intend to apply to a graduate program in sociology.
- Be a senior sociology major at Georgia State.
To apply, you must submit:
- A complete application.
- A Letter of Recommendation from a college instructor, college faculty member, college administrator, or college staff member.
- A copy of your Academic Evaluation.
- A Letter of Interest describing:
- The graduate programs to which you have applied or will apply;
- An explanation of how your academic and/or professional experiences illustrate capability to contribute to the objectives of each of your intended graduate programs; and
- An explanation of how your undergraduate performance demonstrates your candidacy for graduate program admittance.

The Outstanding Undergraduate Award
The Department of Sociology at Georgia State University offers this $150 award to a junior or senior sociology major in recognition of outstanding academic performance.
Use this form to nominate yourself for this award if you meet the eligibility requirements below.*
To be eligible, you must:
- Have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher.
- Be a junior or senior sociology major at Georgia State University.
To apply, you must submit:
- A complete application.
- A Letter of Recommendation from a college instructor, college faculty member, college administrator, or college staff member.
- A copy of your Academic Evaluation.
- A Letter of Interest describing how your undergraduate experience demonstrates outstanding academic performance (e.g., overcoming obstacles to learning, participating in research studies, presenting at conferences, publishing, and/or bringing sociology to a non-academic audience).
