Race & Urban Studies
My primary research interests examine the perpetual transformations of urban neighborhoods through their symbolic and built environments, their human populations, and their lived experiences. Specifically, I focus on how class and racialized inequalities are inscribed within the urban geography. I am currently investigating the transformation of the Atlanta neighborhood, Old Fourth Ward, placing emphasis on the tension between the newer, wealthier, mostly white populations – attracted by the construction and ‘revitalization’ of luxurious condos and boutiques – and the historical, poorer, mostly black populations.
