Gender and Health

Claudia Tillman earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of Georgia in 1998 and went on to conduct clinical research with the Emory University School of Medicine Pregnancy and Postpartum Mood Disorders Program.

Claudia developed her interest in issues of motherhood and created a community support structure for first time moms through a novel program she built and has run for the past four years. This sociologically grounded program expands and enhances her connection with the voices and experiences of parents and dynamically informs her research questions. Claudia’s areas of focus are Gender and Health; particularly overall well-being in motherhood and the medicalization of birth and postpartum. Her research interests include the emerging concepts of traumatic birth and obstetrical violence as well as the role of gender within families.
