We are a leading sociology department engaged in scholarly research, graduate training, undergraduate education, and community engagement in pursuit of social justice.

 

Mission

Through innovative scholarship, teaching, mentoring, and community service, we craft and translate sociological knowledge to foster social justice, equality, and policy transformation. We are dedicated to improving public understanding of  social issues locally and globally related to social class, race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, sexuality, aging and life course, education, health and illness, urban and community life. We welcome all students and scholars regardless of their race, ethnicity, class, gender (which includes gender identity and gender expression), sexuality, nationality, religion, age, dis/ability, and/or veteran status.
