GLOBAL PROGRAMS
For the past several years the Department of Sociology has been a leader in the effort to establish Georgia State as an international center.
Numerous faculty have conducted and published research with an international focus on topics ranging from the long-term care of the elderly in China to sexual risk behavior in Nairobi. The Public Housing Study has been involved in two international conferences, as well as another in Puerto Rico, and published articles on public housing transformation in two collections of global housing research.
The department as a whole offers over 11 courses with a global focus from Families in a Cross-Cultural Perspective (SOCI 8142) to Global Aging and Social Problems (SOCI 4119).
In addition, faculty are also important contributors and organizers of cultural events for the campus community. These contributions include participation in the activities of the Asian Studies Center at Georgia State.
