Health & Life Course
My main area of research is the sociology of health and illness, with foci in illness experience, health social movements, and mental health & stress. I conduct both quantitative and qualitative research and have several ongoing projects, including: a grounded theory analysis of experiencing multi-morbidity at midlife, a qualitative analysis of Vietnam Veterans’ exposure to Agent Orange, and two projects exploring how workplace bullying and chronic work discrimination impact stress and mental health. I also recently became interested in the sociology of suicide and have started exploring how body ideologies impact attitudes toward suicide in the United States, as well as how trends in acceptance of suicide have changed over time. Apart from research I enjoy reading, playing the guitar, and riding my Vespa.
