Career Resources for Sociology Graduates
Sociologists work in many other professional arenas, including positions of political and national leadership. For example, Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan (D-NY) has a doctorate in sociology and civil rights leaders Martin Luther King, J r., Jesse Jackson and Ralph Abernathy earned B.A.s in sociology. Former Atlanta Police Chief Beverly Harvard has a B.A. in Sociology, as does former Atlanta Major, Shirley Franklin. Take this list as a starting point, not as an endpoint.
Students who graduate with a B.A. in sociology will find themselves competing with other liberal arts graduates, but with an advantage — knowledge of key social factors and a firm grasp on research design and methods. This advantage of the B.A. sociology program provides breadth and the potential for adaptability.
